A vacation escape that celebrates the finer things

“We wanted to create something that was unusual in vacation rentals, where you typically don’t see this level of detail,” says Ginger Curtis, founder and CEO of Urbanology Designs in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. When Curtis came across this 1922 cottage in Weatherford, Texas, it needed a full gut renovation, yet she and her team wanted to maintain its charm. “We preserved the things that were special like the wood floors, the millwork around the windows and doors, and the hardware,” she says.
The black-and-white theme carries through the house, but each room expresses it differently. Even with black walls, the entry seems light and bright. The same black paint adds to the Colonel Mustard bedroom’s moodiness. The peacock wallpaper and brushed-gold fixtures glam up the dark-hued bath. Back in the dining room, brightness abounds in contrast to the black table and window trim.
Brass knobs, a wooden island, and wooden vent hood surround add warmth to the kitchen. There’s an even mix of black and white in the Ms. Hosell bedroom, while warm golds add liveliness. If you want to re-create these featured looks, shop the Urbanology Designs website.
